There’s always so much to do around Metro Vancouver in the fall – just the right amount of distraction to wipe away any longings for those sunny summer days.

HARVEST GLOW – Head out to Langley to experience an indoor fall festival like you’ve never seen before. A pumpkin patch, interactive light sculptures, a corn maze, a mini putt, music, and a market make this a magical season for you and your family. The event runs until October 31st – enough time to visit more than once.

TITANIC EXHIBITION – Kate and Leo may have romanced you with a Titanic story in the 90s, but this traveling exhibition will show you the real-life artifacts from this famous sunken vessel. Held at Lipont Place in Richmond, the exhibition is on until January.

OKTOBERFEST – The Vancouver Alpen Club hosts Oktoberfest for three weekends in October. Savour German beer, food, and live music at this authentic festival. Don’t forget your lederhosen.

FAN EXPO VANCOUVER – Every year, Vancouver streets buzz with all your favourite superhero, anime, and sci fi characters at the Fan Expo Vancouver. Held October 12th to 14th, the event hosts seminars, exhibitors, and special guests, including Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, and Lou Ferrigno.

APPLE FESTIVAL – If you love apples, this will be the best weekend of the year for you. UBC Botanical Garden hosts Apple Festival on October 13th and 14th. Sample and buy all kinds of apples, you can even take home an apple tree. While you’re in this neck of the woods, be sure to walk around the beautifully landscaped gardens.

VANCOUVER POLISH FILM FESTIVAL – If you missed the Vancouver International Film Festival, which ends on October 12th, here’s another chance to catch some notable films. Celebrate Polish culture and creativity from October 19th to 21st.

VANCOUVER ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL – Another treat for film lovers, this festival presents a selection of Asian films, merging contemporary storylines with classic. The festival is held from November 1st to 4th in Chinatown.

TEDXSFU – Enjoy a day of ideas on November 3rd, when local brains get together to share stories and thoughts.

DIWALI FEST – This colourful Indian festival can be experienced throughout October in Surrey, Vancouver, and Maple Ridge. The popular event breaks culture barriers and embraces community. Learn about traditional food, music, and dance, and “Light Your Spirit.”

VANCOUVER WRITERS FEST – This renowned yearly festival welcomes world-class writers for a few days of seminars, readings, and youth programs.

HALLOWEEN:

HALLOWEEN TRAIN – Bear Creek Park in Surrey opens two Halloween settings from now until October 31st. Younger kids will love the cheery ride to the pumpkin patch during the day, while older kids can hop on the scream train for a spooky thrill ride.

LOST SOULS OF GASTOWN – Hear stories of smallpox, fire, and murder as you tour through the cobblestone streets of this historic Vancouver area.

GRAVE TALES – Fort Langley gets eerie this close to Halloween. Join storytellers as they guide you through the settlement at night, sharing chilling tales from the past. Keep in mind, this one is aimed for adults.

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW – This timeless story will be performed at the Alchemy Theatre on Granville Island from October 26th to November 10th. Be prepared for an interactive, wacky, sizzling night.
