In January, we announced our plan for StreetSide homes to reach net zero energy by 2032. As we move towards this goal, we’ll be diligent on integrating the below innovations into homes. Each of these technologies and techniques is beneficial on its own – but when used together, real change can happen.

AIRTIGHT CONSTRUCTION: When air can’t transfer from the outside to the inside, and vice versa, the temperature in your home will stay steady. No more chilling winter drafts or heat that seems to leak out from nowhere.

ENERGY STAR APPLIANCES: Energy Star appliances are becoming the standard choice for refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, and dryers – especially as the technology maximizes a small amount of energy without compromising performance.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE WINDOWS: Window technologies keep getting better, with advances in materials and methods of installation. From triple glazing to low-e glass, windows fight against the outdoor elements to maintain an enjoyable indoor temperature.

LED LIGHTING: These modern light bulbs consume 60-90% less power than fluorescent or incandescent bulbs, and have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, which is far greater than traditional bulbs. They’re also safer, emitting less heat than other kinds of lights.

INSULATION: Like an airtight home, insulation is important in preserving your desired indoor climate and decreasing energy consumption. It also creates a sound barrier, helping to soften or mute street and neighbour noises once you close your door.

With all the above parts working together, you’ll soon notice a reduction in energy bills and a more comfortable living environment. Plus, less energy consumption is better for our planet.
