Nature’s Charm in South Surrey

Wherever you turn in South Surrey, there are pockets of nature waiting to be explored — both within the community and close by. From shorelines to forests, from fields to riversides, whatever form of nature you crave, you’ll find it.

Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest

This 130-hectare, second-growth forest officially became an urban park in 1988, and is alive with plants and wildlife. You may encounter a coyote, deer, rabbit, or raccoon creeping through the tree trunks. Walk or jog the 4km trail around the park, and keep an eye out for one of the park’s rare orchids, the rattlesnake-plantain.

Redwood Park

Named for its grove of towering mature redwoods, this forest, planted with trees from around the world, has something for everyone. Take the pup on a nature walk along 5kms of trails, pack a picnic to enjoy with a friend under a rustic picnic shelter, or let the little ones loose in the playground. And see if you can find one of the rumoured fairies.

Morgan Creek Golf Course

Greenery sweeps across 18 beautifully manicured holes at this favourite West Coast golf course. Ranked as one of the Top 50 Golf Courses in Canada, Morgan Creek is loved for its stunning scenery, strategic layout, and delicious restaurant.

Nicomekl Riverfront Park

This future park will stretch 3km along the south side of the Nicomekl River. These 80 acres are being designed with consideration for climate change, to allow the river to adapt in time. Phase 1 is expected to open in 2025. Put it in your calendar.

South Surrey Athletic Park

Stay active and have some fun outdoors at this large athletic park. With various fields for baseball, football, soccer, and lacrosse, the park also draws people in with its BMX track, skateboard park, and tennis courts. There’s always something happening here.

Crescent Beach

Sit and watch the tide ebb and flow or stare in wonder at the sunset at this scenic local beach. Explore the shoreline for treasures and immerse yourself in nature on one of the trails. When the weather’s warm, dip into the water for a swim or play a friendly game of beach volleyball.
