Nature is all around you when you live in Burnaby. Lakes, parks, playgrounds, and 230 kilometres of paths and trails. You’ll be inspired to spend more time outdoors when it’s in your backyard. Read on for some of the best spots in Burnaby to explore a touch of nature.

Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area

Climb to Burnaby’s highest point, shared with Simon Fraser University, and take in the stunning views of Vancouver, Burrard Inlet, and the North Shore Mountains. The sunsets are a sight to see. Explore the winding trails, designed for walking, biking, or even horse-riding or admire the blooms in the Centennial Rose Garden. There’s even art and culture – the Kamui Mintara (Playground of the Gods) is a cluster of carved wooden sculptures by Japanese artists Nuburi Toko and his son, Shusei.

Deer Lake Park

This much-loved park not only offers a beautiful natural landscape, it also has one of Metro Vancouver’s best outdoor music venues. Festival Lawn is home to the annual Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival and has hosted concerts for artists such as Bon Iver, Weezer, and Alabama Shakes. When you’re not listening to music, wander the lakeside trails, step into the forest, or rent a boat and float out on the water. There are also picnic areas and a playground, perfect for days with the family.

Central Park

Located near Metrotown, Central Park is one of Burnaby’s best parks for sport fans and has an immense douglas fir, western hemlock, cedar, poplar, and maple population. The 90-hectare area includes a baseball diamond, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, a lawn bowling green, and a pitch-and-putt nestled into a forest of grand trees. It’s also home to Swangard Stadium, where you can catch lively local soccer, rugby, football, and lacrosse games.

Barnet Marine Park

Lining Burrard Inlet, you’ll smell the fresh salt air at Barnet Marine Park. A sandy beach invites summer swimming, or stroll the waterfront pathway and marvel at the North Shore mountains across the water. There’s also an off-leash dog park and a picnic area, where you can enjoy the outdoors during warmer months.
