Ever since Family Day came to be in BC just a few years ago, we’ve relished in the February long-weekend that breaks up the winter months between the New Year and Good Friday holidays.

To celebrate, there’s always lots of activities across the Lower Mainland perfect for families to spend time together. We found a few favourites…

ART

Pop by the Vancouver Maritime Museum for the Into the Arctic exhibit, and discover a beautiful part of the world through a series of art.

Create art at the Children’s Art Festival in Richmond – your kids are sure to be inspired with so much creativity around.

CULTURE

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at Central City in Surrey from 11am to 4pm. Expect music, dance, and crafts, plus a traditional lion dance.

You can also catch a Lion Dance and Kung Fu demonstrations at the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library on February 10th.

The Massey Theatre in New West will be telling stories all day on February 10th – from musicals to jugglers to First Nations legends.

LEARN

Step back in time at the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Explore buildings of the 1800s, when fur traders and gold prospectors set up camp. And listen to century-old tales of the First Nations people.

Learn all about running a farm at Southlands Heritage Farm and meet a few animals while you’re there.

OUTDOORS

Surrey Nature Centre is hosting nature walks in Surrey’s beautiful outdoors between 10am and 2pm.

View the splendors of this stunning province on the Sea to Sky Gondola. Tickets are 50% off this weekend.

There are lots of places in nature that embrace the winter months. Take a look at some of these spots in the Fraser Valley.

You don’t have to leave home to enjoy each other’s company. Stay in and play games, make art, cook a feast, or screen a film.
