A Celebratory Canada Day Long Weekend
More so than the summer solstice, Canada Day truly marks the start of summer. And it’s always nice when it falls next to a weekend, extending the days off from two to three. There are plenty of ways to celebrate the day around Metro Vancouver. Read on for a few of the most popular events!
Not only the biggest Canada Day celebration in Western Canada, this is one of the largest outdoor concerts in B.C. The free event starts at 10am and culminates in a stunning fireworks show once the sun goes down. Drop by to listen to Bif Naked, Our Lady Peace, and other performers, feel your heart quicken on the amusement rides, and indulge in a few food truck treats.
This much-loved celebration gets a lot of attention because it’s in the heart of downtown Vancouver – and you can’t go wrong with splashes of fireworks against those North Shore Mountains. The festivities start during the day at Jack Poole Plaza, with musical performances, a kids’ zone, food trucks, and a parade.
Your whole family will enjoy the day on Granville Island, where a street party will be in full effect. Have fun with arts and crafts, performing arts, live music, and lots more. With the market right there, you can guarantee the food will be delicious.
BURNABY VILLAGE MUSEUM
Travel back in time to the 1920s and immerse yourself in a historical Canada Day celebration. Enjoy multi-cultural entertainment, heritage games, a parade, and cupcakes.
Take a road trip up the Sea to Sky to spend Canada Day in the mountains. Squamish hosts a parade, a market, and entertainment throughout the day. Make a pit stop at Shannon Falls to appreciate a taste of the magnificent nature Canada is known for.
